Why spend that much money when you can buy a 120 Gig HD from Newegg for $80 which does not void your warrenty with Sony?

The PS3 being sold in Korea is going to have a 80 gb hard drive, and cost $557 US. What money are you talking about? In Korea, the PS3 will have 20 gb more HDD space, and cost about $40 less.

from 60 to 80? Just about 30% increase? Why not claim the "highest" crown with a 160gb HD? Why not 200gb than? That's a good increase of space when compared to the 20gb increase they are planning.

So what type of interface does the PS3 use for their hard drives? I hear they're laptop based so their either IDE or SATA, so which is it?

This model include the new Green-Ray Drive?

I would much rather have a flash harddrive. Be able to leave the unit on forever with out worring about drive failure. Make it 60 gigs leave it at that.

They're defineitly not using raptors, so why the hell
can't they do 200,300, or even 5oo GB?

That may be the reason games load slowly.
Although, I do have to say kudos on 2 terraflop output max. - Not to start any new hype.

They use a SATA 2.5" drive, not the normal desktop 3.5" so 200,300,500 gig drives are kind of out of the realm of possibility, and as such, going from 60 to 80 gigs is actually a decent jump considering the prices of 2.5" drives.

The PS3, without modification, is only able to accept 2.5" drives, so the max currently on those is 250GB.

Are they using traditional sata interface?
If thats the case, why not get an external case for the new 3.5" Hd. I'd love to use a raptor. If this is possible of course.
If not, Possible 2.5 to 3.5" adapter?

Sony will survive this round but will be unable to afford to stay in the technologically leading position for the next round of consoles. Stockholders and the board will be weary of a repeat. Sony will however be most capable of stretching the life of this current console generation. They absolutely must work overtime to keep the game developers on-board in order to make that happen.

Microsoft will have to be the first out of the gate again next time because they'll run out of capacity on the disks. They'll need to release a revision with a built-in upgraded Blu-Ray or HD-DVD or 16 GB flash-based distribution media. I 'm not convinced the market will move entirely to download-based distribution. Next time, they'll easily surpass Sony's current-round and possibly next-round processing power.

Nintendo can already afford to begin investment in it's next generation console. They'll just need to release one with slightly more power than Sony's current offering. That and provide more innovative wii-mote attachments. I don't think they can get by next time simply on novelty.

Both Sony and Microsoft would be wise to capture and grow into the newly built market from Nintendo.
