Redmond (WA) - Nintendo has acquired Monolith Soft, the name behind the epic RPG series Xenosaga.

According to IGN, Namco Bandai sold an 80% share of the development studio to Nintendo, and it will hold on to 16%.  It's a move that could put more in-depth games into the Wii library.

Monolith's previous work for Nintendo includes Baiten Kaitos for the Gamecube and a Japan-only port of Xenosaga episodes I & II to the DS.  It's currently working on Disaster: Day of Crisis, one of the first confirmed M-rated games for the Wii.
