When will I see them speeds are home?

how do they get their tubes so fast?

What does it matter? They wont open it up to the consumers because the crappy companies in the US grease politicians hands and keep us lagging behind in technology.

It's a damn shame that Europe and other places have higher bandwidth connection to the net than USA citizen.

LOL if it wasn't for competition verizon would still have us with 128 k max connection. They rolled out the FIOS under pressure, claiming the time wasn't right for higher spped connections. While people in Europe had 5 to 25 meg uploading.

I think I need to get a 100TB drive. At this speed, you can download a packed BlueRay in under a minute!

Now all they need to do is figure out how to bring this speed to the millions of consumers.

All this speed really doesn't matter.. Our PC's can't run this fast (hard drives)....
I connected two computer over a 1gig connection (ethernet) and copying files the PC's were maxing out at about 250....

Well then (assuming that this is true), I think if Microsoft, Google and Yahoo worked together they could do a better job at greasing politicians hands :) than these other companies .

It would be a very smart investment too. Faster net would would lead to more ppl spending more time on the net, which would lead to them getting more advertising revenue.

ppl would value computers more and would put more money to an item which more of their time is based around and then microsoft sells more software.

Downloading 9Gbit content onto a computer that has drives with a 300Mbit throughput would require a striped raid array of more than 30 drives!

The reason we have such slow broadband speeds in the US is because corporations build the backbones, plain and simple. All of the countries with the top broadband speeds have backbones financed by their governments. It's ironic that the end user pays the cost, either way. I personally believe the digital backbones in the US should be paid for by Uncle Sam, but the average taxpayer here in America would never go for that.

Even if we had that tunnel, our current hardware would never handle that download speed. And I assure you the government will be the first to get their hands on it before the consumer.

There are key universities using it now. Internet 2 has been in use for years by some parts of the government (military etc), schools and researchers. And they are not all connected with super computers lol.

The movie and music industry were already crying about it, because some of the college kids are dowloading and exchanging movies and music in a flash.

Again, people are using it today. Some universities are experimenting with live classroom video conferencing. The teachers has a multi moniotors and receives live video feeds from students as they receive one of him giving his lecture.

There was an article discussing this and also going into detail about other universities crying foul for not being offered the opportunity.

A T3 which is 45 Meg, OC3 is 155 Meg OC12 is 620 Meg or just get a OC48 is like 2.5 Gig which is as fast as 48 T3's.

Don't even try to find the price of a WDM or BGP4 connection LOL that's 10 gig and higher.

But it'll cost over 10k per month. Imagine budgeting and you line item in "my internet connection". Then slide over to the debit column and pencil in 15K or so for the month. :-)

Ok so there are corporations, gov't agencies that can do it. But you can't sit here and tell everyone that your home PC can handle 9 gigs of data in a second. If it can, you need to post your hardware specs cuz every PC maker will want your rig.

Hmmm, I read my post again and outside of some gramtical erros I never read anywhere me stating my system is currently setup to handle it. I simply stated it's very realistic to do today. Technology wise we aren't decades or many away. It was to point even more how we are being stiffled from a technology standpoint.

Here buddy I hope this helps, read up on the HP 10 Gigabit Ethernet SR Fiber Network Interface card. All of our PC can handle the speed if the other things are put in place. We have SATA 2 with no hard drives pushing for more, therefore the hardware is the limitation.

The students that are using this at very select universities are using something similar to this. It's a fiber network and we'll all be using them in the near future as standard.

Cheaper alternatives are out there. As an example the Nvidia 680i allows for a two gig connection utilizing two gigabit cards. And another board manufacturer (can't remember the name) is allowing four.

I don't have internet2 access or have any of the internet 1 connections that I mentioned earlier to utilize the card.

The corporations are dictacting to us what is available. They only respond to competion and lost revenue. In some places the government is stepping in and offering higher connection at reasonable and realistic prices.

A good example of us (the consumer) in a stangle hold is the telephony industry should have upgraded phone from mono to stereo long ago. With no competition they have no need to upgrade and push out newer technology.

As a response to their control of the market, the release of high quality stereo based phone are not brought to the market. Simply because even if they manufactured it, consumers can't use it. And, even though mono 'music on hold' sucks, it will remain the best available. Until telecoms decide to upgrade or VOIP takes off and pushes quality to new limits, we are stuck.

samsung hit the market with a solid state flash drive, and as you'll read on toms hardware where i believe i read the review, at an ata 66 hook up there are still stats that read way above a conventional hard drive. you can buy a 32 gig on newegg right now for around 500 bones.

Hell Yeah! Well, it's about time! Now porn surfing will be a lot quicker. What usually takes me about 15 hours a day (to surf porn) can take me just a few short hours or less. YEEEEHAAAAAW!!! No more waiting for bating (as in mastur).
