Sunnyvale (CA) - The Internet may be extending its role as a accepted mass information platform, as Yahoo, The Huffington Post and Slate are planning to host online-only Presidential Debates during the 2008 campaign.

Currently there are two separate debates proposed, one for Democratic and one for Republican candidates. Anyone who has formally announced a candidacy will be invited to the debate and will allow them to participate from whatever location they choose.

According to a press release, the debates will be hosted on all three websites and watchers are promised to get an opportunity the opportunity to ask questions directly to the candidates, participate in the debate in real-time and determine the most convincing candidate.

Google’s video site YouTube is also trying to grow up from being a casual political information website in previous elections to become a more serious platform for the 2008 campaign. Ad banners with the “You Choose ‘08” phrase are posted across the site and link to candidates channels, which are specifically addressing the YouTube audience.
