You can see (below the image, on the first benefit) that the speeds are really the maximum PCI-Express speeds, which have nothing to do with read and write speeds that the card will really have (no info on that).

If those speeds were for r/w speeds, they would be selling it as the fastest (and by good margin) SSD and normal HD available today!!!

It doesn't really matter if you have an interface that gives you 10000000000 TB/ns if the r/w speeds are just a few MBs, and that is what's most important - it's what you really get to feel and use.

The story states usable bandwidth quite clearly: 800 Mb/s normally, 2500 Mb/s burst. It's quite possible that the 2500 Mb/s bit may actually be *wrong*, as no other story on the new format mentions this "burst" capability, but this isn't "misleading".

To be clear, this story, and the press release to which you refer, state that 800 Mb/s will be possible with the cards. This number is in no way misleading.

Regarding interface speed: This is tremendously important. Having an interface whose performance outstrips the bandwidth of the actual storage technology (e.g. flash memory) is great. It means there's a good chance that device manufacturers will design to the interface spec, and potentially leave you with improved operation in the future (with a future card containing a faster form of memory, of course).

Also, you may be getting bits and bytes confused. Various flavours of the SATA spec do better than 2500 Mb/s (that's megabits/second) today, and a number of drives are approaching this actual performance level (and therefore easily doing 800 Mb/s). We are, of course, seeing another doubling in interface speed on SATA.

Back to bursting: Even though no one seems to be clearly saying that the bursting is for real, it's entirely possible to build cards that will permit suhc bursting -- a higher-speed buffer just needs to be in place, and you can use volatile memory here if you'd like, as the data does not need to be retained.

STOP! Cardbus is a universal standard. Now Apple is using Expresscard. We don't need every device to have its own standard. Even CompactFlash is one standard too many and SD is proprietary. Scrap this memory stick nonsense and stick to open standards.

I agree with the comments on there being too many standards, but even worse is this thing's name. Try saying it out loud: SxS. You can't, it just doesn't sound right at all. Fail.
