Mountain View (CA) - 30 months after it first hit the PC, Google Desktop is now available in a beta format for the Mac operating system. The application lets users search through Google and Gmail from a desktop tool, in addition to browsing through files stored on the computer.
"We designed the Quick Search Box to be a great launcher for applications and files, which means I no longer have a million icons on my desktop and in my dock," said Rose Yao, product manager for Google Mac, in Google's official blog. Google has also released MacFuse and Google Earth for the Apple computer platform, and earlier this year launched an official Google Mac Blog. The beta version of Google Desktop for Macs is available as a free download from its official site.
