Ontario (CA) - XFX today announced a new series of motherboards based on Nvidia’s nForce 600i series chipset for Intel processors.

The new boards come in two flavors, with the performance-focused 680i chipset as well as the slightly detuned 680i LT version. The higher-end 680i board targets overclockers that are planning to upgrade to Intel’s upcoming Core 2 Duo 6x50 series of processors with FSB1333 or run any other socket 775 CPU including a Core 2 Extreme (dual and quad core), Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, Celeron D, Pentium 4, Pentium 4, Pentium D 9XX, Pentium D 8XX processor.

The LT model offers a similar feature set, including two x16 ports. However, SLI memory support is limited to 800 MHz (680i: 1200 MHz).

XFX promises that the boards will deliver up to 22% more performance when compared to a standard to Intel 975 or 965 chipset motherboard.

Pricing has not been announced, but we expect the LT version to start just below $200.
