Los Angeles (CA) - Country singer Keith Urban is fighting a New Jersey-based artist with the same name over the domain of www.keithurban.com, which the New Jersey man uses to advertise and sell his oil paintings.

The lawsuit was filed in a Nashville, Tennessee District Court and accuses Urban of trademark infringement and violating cybersquatting laws, which say that someone can't reserve an Internet domain with the sole intent of profiting from or impuning a company or person with the name of the domain.

The suit says that the painter's site is being used "in a manner likely to deceive the public into believing that the website has a connection to Plaintiff that does not exist." Currently, the singer owns keithurban.net.

The artist, on the other hand, wants the country singer to give over his .net domain, and is seeking monetary damanges as well. It is similar to a case from a couple years ago where Microsoft threatened to sue a man names Mike Rowe for opening up www.mikerowesoft.com. Public outcry caused Microsoft to drop the charges.
