Another Bond film, another Bond phone. That seems to be the trend in
recent tie-ins between mobile phone manufacturers and the James Bond
movie franchise. The latest to date is a special edition C902 from Sony
Ericsson, tied to the upcoming Quantum of Solace movie, which is

So you spent hours waiting in line to get your hands on an iPhone 3G or
you put up with AT&T’s direct fulfillment deal and have been using
this elegant phone with its reflective white plastic back that is
topped off with a chrome outline and aluminum buttons. Greasy
fingerprints are bad enough for the look-at-me factor of your iPhone,

With first beta of the 2.1 firmware for the
iPhone/iPod touch now seeded to developers, speculations about new
features are gathering steam. Of course, most of us won't settle for
anything less than the missing features expected in 2.0 in the first
place. We all know that Apple's priority list doesn't always match that
of its users, but it's high time for Cupertino-folks to address basics
that portray iPhone as a toy compared to rest of the industry. |

Speculations about possible Zune-branded mobile phone from Microsoft
have been discussed in the blogosphere since the iPhone was introduced
last June. Microsoft on its part has avoided confirming or denying
these rumors (which is usually an indication that such a device is in
the works) but analysts warn that the software giant would jeopardize
20 million Windows Mobile licenses if it decided to make the Zune
handset.

Voodoo, the boutique end of HP, has been designing crazy
computers for a while, and HP’s almost unlimited resources have now
allowed it to make an even crazier laptop. We first wrote about the
ultra-portable Envy 133 back on June 10th and now take a closer look at
Voodoo’s MacBook Air-killer. |

The launch of Android, Google's open-source OS for mobile phones, was postponed. As a consequence, a majority of carriers and handset vendors have pushed the launch of their Android-powered smart phones to the end of the year or beginning of next year. In the meantime, Nokia acquired Symbian and then released this dominant mobile OS in open source. Many believed that this was a prelude to a head-on collision with Android but it looks like the two are headed for more of a beast with two backs relationship than a tap out. |

Following the release of a Mac-only tool for hacking the iPhone 3G, a new Windows-only version has been released. However, neither of these solutions will unlock the iPhone 3G for use on non-AT&T networks because of hardware changes made to the handset by Apple. While hackers are trying to figure out how to circumvent carrier lock, we wonder if it is even worth the effort. |
