Chicago (IL) - Sling Media at long last is now making available for purchase the HD version of its popular Slingbox media streaming box. It is called the Slingbox PRO-HD and you'll find it on sale for around $300.
The Slingbox PRO-HD lets one stream "HD content from a home television source, including over the air HD digital signals (ATSC), digital cable channels (Clear QAM), HDTV cable set-top boxes, HDTV satellite receivers, or HD DVR’s, to a laptop or desktop computer in and around the house." This HD stream can also be sent over the Internet to your laptop provided you have the SlingPlayer software installed.
The PRO-HD box incorporates technology called SlingStream 2.0, which allows the box to "adaptively stream high quality television content across virtually any network connection." This reportedly noticeably improves audio/video quality for those viewing content remotely. The PRO-HD includes support for both standard (4:3) and widescreen (16:9) video formats and features multiple integrated sets of audio-video inputs and outputs, according to Sling Media.
Sling Media says it has updated its SlingPlayer for Windows software for PCs running Windows XP or Windows Vista as well. The software features a live video buffer which lets you pause and rewind a live video stream. Also included is an electronic programming guide (EPG) and the incorporation of "Sling Accounts, a single sign-on feature that keeps key personal Slingbox information including Finder IDs, favorite channels and programming guide information."
