San Francisco (CA) – Apple unveiled its fourth-generation iPod nano as well as a new 120 GB iPod Classic at its “Let’s Rock” event today. The 160 GB iPod is gone.
Apple officially announced the new iPod nano, which pretty much looks like iPod shown in leaked product shots. Packed into a curved aluminum and glass design, Jobs said that it is the “thinnest iPod” the company ever made. It has an accelerometer, supports cover flow and has a few new features such as a calendar, a stop watch and voice recording. Users can activate a shuffle mode by simply shaking the player.
Battery life is 24 hours for music and 4 hours for video playback.
As expected, Apple is also offering the nano in a 16 GB version, which will be offered for $199. There are a bunch of new colors, ranging from purple, blue, green, orange to red.
And what a new product announcement be without a touch of greentech? Apple said that the new iPods use arsenic-free glass, and use BFR-free, PVC-free and Mercury-free materials. And yes, these nanos are also completely recyclable.
The original iPod Classic also received a minor update. Apple decided to cancel the “thick” 160 GB model and replace the 80 GB version with a new 120 GB player. It will sell for $249.
More to come.
