Windows 8 Asus VivoTab hits pre-order

The $800 Asus VivoTab TF810C runs Windows 8 and features an 11.6-inch Super IPS+ screen set at 1366 x 768 resolution.

The tablet – powered by Intel’s Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor – is also available with an optional keyboard dock that not only doubles the runtime of the tablet, but also makes it look and feel more like a small ultrabook.

Unfortunately, the starting pre-order price of $800 doesn’t include the keyboard dock, so if you do want something to tap away comfortably on, you’ll have to cough up an additional $200.

Additional tablet specs include 2 GB of internal RAM, a 64 GB solid-state drive for storage, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an eight-megapixel rear camera and a two-megapixel front camera for video conferencing.

The best news for shoppers looking to pre-order one of these tablets? Since it runs Windows 8, the device is capable of running software most typically associated with desktop PCs. Meaning, you can use Office just as you would on your desktop or standard notebook computer.

It should be noted that Asus is also offering a similar tablet that runs Windows RT and uses the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. That tablet starts at $599, but doesn’t offer as much software compatibility as the full-fledged x86 Windows 8 Asus VivoTab TF810C.
