The third biggest TFT-LCD flat panel manufacturing company in the world is considering boosting its position in the market by buying Chunghwa Picture Tubes.

According to a report in today's Taipei Times,  the chairman of AU Optronics (AUO), Lee Kun-yao said the time had come more for consolidation in the flat panel market - worth around $90 billion a year.

Hon Hai division Innolux Display said in mid November that it had bought Chi Mei Optoelectronics for $5.3 billion. Hon Hai is a Taiwanese mega-manufacturer.

Currently, AUO holds third position in the market worldwide, after  Korean majors Samsung and LG Display. The Taipei Times article is here.
