Philadelphia (PA) - A former fugitive received a 75 year prison sentence after police caught him through his MySpace account.  35-year-old Darrin Bates had escaped from Hancock County Jail back in June 2006, but recaptured in December when he checked his MySpace account from the Philadelphia Public Library.

Police were able to track Bates down because he regularly checked his account from the same library.  Authorities worked with MySpace and the library’s Internet service provider to track down the IP address and then staked out the inside of the library.

While on the run, Bates beat up an 88-year-old Estelle Ivey and caused her permanent eye damage.
