While major notebook vendors continue to introduce models with LED backlighting into the market, prices for LEDs are estimated to drop by 40-50% in 2009 as clients will be in a better position to negotiate prices, according to backlight unit (BLU) makers. The price difference between LED BLUs and cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) BLUs has narrowed down to 1.5 times and industry players estimate that with yield improving, the costs for LED BLUs may drop 20% in 2009.
