San Francisco (CA) - Intel announced today it has added full support for Mac OS X Leopard with its most recent set of developer tools.  Included are version 10.1 of Intel's C++ and Fortran compilers, as well as Thread Building Blocks, Math Kernel libraries and Performance Primitives.  This new set of developer tools provides Mac users with unprecedented developer support for Intel-based Macs.

These tools have been optimized for Apple's Leopard and Xcode 3.0 development environment launched last month.  "Leopard, Xcode and Intel's compilers give developers powerful new tools to squeeze even more performance out of the latest Intel processors," said Apple's senior VP of software engineering, Bertrand Serlet.

Intel has been making a steady move toward open-source and multi-platform support for the past couple of years.  It's a new face of Intel that is quite surprising to see, especially considering their former almost militant attitude toward their intellectual property, software and hardware.  It seems the rigors of a technologically plugged-in and aware world are causing realities to stream forward.  There's more money to be made by doing it wide and open than in keeping it narrow and closed .
