Duluth (MN) - Jammie Thomas, the first person to go to court over illegal music downloading charges, says she will pay her $222,000 judgment by herself.

"I'm not going to ask for financial help," she was quoted as saying in an Associated Press story.  She went on to say, however, "If it comes, I'm not going to turn it down, either."

Thomas will not actively seek any means of financial aid, though.  The single mother reportedly earns around $36,000 a year.  She was ordered to pay $222,000 for 24 songs she was accused of sharing on Kazaa in 2005.

"Up until this point I have not held my hand out and asked for financial assistance from anyone," she said.
