Samsung has extended its lead in the NAND flash market in the second quarter of this year. According to estimates published by iSuppli, Samsung sold NAND flash memory for about $1.4 billion in the second quarter, translating into a 45.9% market share - up almost two points from 44.1% in the first quarter.
Second in the ranking was Toshiba with sales of $828 million and a share of 27.5%, followed by Hynix with sales of $440 million and a share of 14.6%. The joint venture formed by Intel and Micron achieved a combined $230 million and a share of 7.7%, while both companies were listed separately as Intel and Micron are pursuing sales independently: Micron is listed fourth with $162 million in sales and Intel sixth with $68 million.
Other top vendors in the list were STMicro in fifth position with revenues of $70 million, Renesas in seventh with $59 million and Qimonda in eighth with $2 million.
