Twitter eyes promoted pages

Much like Facebook’s business pages, word on the street says Twitter is considering a similar strategy as part of its plan to monetize the social networking site.

Although specific details of the project haven't been disclosed, Twitter would probably give brands space to advertise and gain followers.

Twitter has been talking about rapidly expanding its advertising revenue since 2010, which seems to be Dick Costolo’s never-ending mission.

But now sources say Costolo, along with President of Revenue Adam Bain, are seriously considering the idea as part of a larger plan to hyper-monetize Twitter.

The feature would probably work much like Facebook Pages - providing businesses with their own space to create specific branding messages.

Currently, Twitter only offers Promoted Accounts, which allows brands to appear in recommended followers’ lists and sponsor hashtags to appear in search.

Twitter originally worked with big time partners like Starbucks and moved on to Promoted Accounts and Promoted Tweets.

Chances are Twitter will eventually allow promoted pages so businesses can more easily publicize themselves, which would likely lead to additional revenue for the site.
