Sunnyvale (CA) - As the new Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz prepares to assume her responsibilities, all indications are she's accepted by most all and ready to go to work. Yahoo president Sue Decker does not share her optimism, however, and has resigned. She was in the running for the CEO spot, and will now be leaving after a transition period.

In a statement, Bartz said, "There is no denying that Yahoo! has faced enormous challenges over the last year, but I believe there is now an extraordinary opportunity to create value for our shareholders and new possibilities for our customers, partners and employees."

Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang said, "She is the exact combination of seasoned technology executive and savvy leader that the board was looking for."

Yahoo Chairman Roy Bostock said in a statement, "She is admired in the Valley as well as on Wall Street for her deep management expertise, strong customer orientation, excellent people skills and firm understanding of the challenges facing our industry. Carol meets all of the criteria we set for the search and is the only person to whom we offered the job."

Bartz is criticized by some in the media for not having much Internet or online advertising experience, despite being a well seasoned tech manager. She began work at Autodesk in April, 1992. During that time she served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, CEO and President.

Ms. Decker had been Chief Financial Officer at Yahoo since 2000 before assuming her role as president on June 18, 2007. She currently serves on the board of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., Costco Wholesale Corporation and Intel Corporation.
