San Francisco (CA) - EMI Group, the third largest music company in the world, has agreed to share music videos with YouTube. Now YouTube viewers can browse music videos by popular bands like Cold Play and Fat Boy Slim. EMI is even allowing people to embed videos into user generated content.
On its end, YouTube promises to share revenue with EMI, but no financial details were given. EMI was the last major record label to hold out against YouTube and the company had even threatened to sue the world’s most popular video site. “With this deal, all four of the world’s major music companies are now official YouTube partners,” said Chad Hurley, CEO
The partnership doesn’t give YouTube viewers free reign in posting any EMI video. EMI can request the removal of any of its copyrighted content through YouTube’s new content management tools. YouTube currently has a content verification program that allows any copyright holder to request a video’s removal.
