Armonk (NY) - Union representatives revealed internal documents from IBM which indicate they will cutting about 2,800 jobs in North America. IBM spokesman Doug Shelton confirmed today that several employees were sent notices last week indicate their positions were being eliminated.
The job losses were split evenly between hardware and software divisions. Affected workers were given 30 to 90 days notice, and were "encourage to apply for other jobs within IBM, and will be granted severance packages upon leaving the company."
IBM currently employees nearly 400,000 workers worldwide and recently reported its Q4'2008 earnings with record revenues for the year, but 6% decline in Q4.
