Intel will cut prices of its 865G chipset in the fourth quarter of 2006, in an attempt to accelerate inventory clearance prior to the push of Microsoft Vista-compliant chipsets, sources at Taiwan motherboard makers indicated.
The quotes for the 865G will be lowered to US$26 in the fourth quarter, down from $36 at present, the sources noted. For the motherboard makers with the highest volumes, the quotes could be further cut to $13-15, indicated the sources.
